Where will all the people stay?
London is bracing itself for an invasion. Millions of people are expected to visit the greatest show on Earth in 2012. The London Olympics is expected to surpass all before it. The United Kingdom is ready to host the XXX Olympiad with all the expertise and hospitality it is famous for.
The long view....
Accommodation will be in short supply for those who have not already made arrangements, and any left will be at a premium. Many hotels, motels and B&B's in and around the capital have already reached capacity. But all is not lost. Do not despair. An Englishman's home may be his castle, but for a short time in 2012 his drawbridge will be down, and his rooms will be at your disposal. Visitors should seriously consider taking advantage of the hospitality on offer, and will be able to rent houses, apartments and rooms for the duration of their stay.
For Accommodation Providers.....
You may not have thought about it yet, but now is the time to act because time is moving fast.
Owners of properties be they flats or houses, caravans or boats, or even with a spare room can look forward to a substantial income.
Obviously those closest to the venue will have an advantage, and will be able to charge more, but
considering London's extensive public transport network, there is
nowhere within Greater London that will be not more than 40 minutes from
any stadium.
If you live within 15 even 20 miles from the Olympic Park, then consider
letting out a space. The London Transport network, incorporating fast and regular tubes, buses and
trains will be operating at their best, with priority over the period.
But don't take our word for it - The London Evening Standard says the same!
It's not all about London.....
Remember that not all events will be taking place at the Olympic Park - other London venues to name a few include Earls Court, Hyde Park, Lords Cricket Ground, Wembley and Wimbledon - all famous names to conjure excitement.
Further afield venues will take place at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, and at Old Trafford, home of Manchester United, Hampden Park in Glasgow - the home of Scottish football, and St James' Park, home of Newcastle United. From Wales, Scotland and England the games will play. The sailing competitions will be held in beautiful Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour - renown as England's Jurassic coast, and the famous Chesil Beach and where white sands meet cobalt and turquoise seas.
So if you think you live too far from a venue, then think again.
Some facts.....
The 2012 Olympics will be the third held in London during the course of 104 years. The first being in 1908. It was the IV Olympiad. Those games were originally intended for Rome, but the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906 meant that the Italian government had to divert funds for relief, and Great Britain subsequently stepped up to the plate and was chosen over Berlin and Milan. It was held at White City in west London, with the stadium being built within ten months. It was considered a great building achievement, and set the benchmark for all future venues.
The history and controversy of these early modern games are laced with interesting facts and figures, most notably that the American flag bearer refused to bow the Stars and Stripes to Edward VII, and some other countries paraded without any flag - Finland for example, who resented having to march behind the flag of Russia.
Britain stepped up to the mark again in 1948 to host the Olympics after the Second World War. Yet again they had a great stadium to hold it - at Wembley, and although it was an austere time, it is characterised by the euphoric feelings that war was over and people of all nations could compete without conflict. Memories of the Berlin Olympics which Hitler used to demonstrate his nation's power had to be banished. There was a new order, yet the old battered and weary British Empire did it's best and rose to the occasion.
Now - the third time - the UK has the chance to shine properly. And who could deny them that? This time they were given time to prepare, this time they have been allowed to show the world what a great Olympics can be.
They are transforming nearly 2 square miles of industrial London wasteland into a green backdrop for the games, providing a legacy for people and wildlife for decades to come.
Never before in the history of the Olympic Games has so much thought gone into creating an event dedicated to sport, ecology, environment and conservation for the future. In harmony with the stadiums will be gardens, markets, cafes and bars. Quiet public spaces and habitats are being created for hundreds of existing rare species from kingfishers to otters.
2000 British trees have been selected and hand picked to form the green spaces in the Olympic Park, and a further 2000 trees are being planted in the Olympic Village. Athletes from around the world will have an experience second to none, enhancing peace and harmony. Visitors and spectators will be equally enthralled.
The London Olympics promises to be the best since the modern games began and it is an opportunity not to be missed. 1948 demonstrated spirit, unity, courage and friendship. A world divided by war, became united by sport. The Olympic dream! Five circles, interconnected, representing five continents, embracing peace and friendship. It’s the reason why the torch continues to burn. The flame of hope!
64 years later that time has come again – and this time it will be outstanding. Be confident in London - stretch out the hands of friendship to every visitor - its the only place to be in 2012.

Wish I still lived in London, though not sure how much space I could have rented out in my broom cupboard of a flat! :) Great information for all those attending the games and sure to have the capacity to save them a considerable amount of money.
A delightful read and a very interesting topic. I have no doubt accommodation is going to be at a premium. Does a gentleman got to stay in a hotel? I well remember London's superb public transport system. I might just try having another visit with such a superb spectacle on show.
i like your hub. very informative work you done.keep it up.
Voting up on this one great hub and great topic well done!
Terrific Idea for a Hub. I met an associate through my business that set up a Website for the Winter Olympics in Utah. He then went and solicited private owners willing to rent out their properties. Connected the Two and made a really nice profit. And people loved it because all the avialable rooms were sold out. I hope you do well. Voting up.
Great information about the 2012 Olympics. I hope I can attend.

Really useful post thanks a lot. Actually you are so right that Olympics is the most expected event and most of the accommodations are already booked long time ago. So renting an accommodation somewhere near could save the day. I actually found this site http://www.rentholidayapartmentlondon.co.uk but I will also check yours and will decide shortly. Thanks again
